hi there!
i haven't had a chance to write any letters in a while, nor have i felt compelled to do so...so feel special gap.
unfortunately, it's not a happy one. last night, i had date night with my mom. i went to nordstrom cafe (had delicious shrimp and asparagus risotto, omg) and saw how do you know (highly recommend!). on the way walking to the movies, i spotted a beaaaaautiful cardigan on display in the window at gap.

it was seriously calling my name.
but i was running late for the movies, so i (sadly) had to walk away.
the movie was over around 10 and the mall was still open due to special holiday hours. on the way walking back to where we parked, i saw the cardigan on display in yet another window.
obviously, i took this as a sign that i needed it. the shopping gods were calling...duh.
so, i walk in and i ask where i could find it because it was literally nowhere to be found. one of the sales associates checked around and then went to his manager. his manager then rudely said that there were none left. when i mentioned the POSSIBILITY of taking it off of the display, the manager looked at me like i literally just murdered someone with a scarf like, on the salesfloor.
a. i have never been in a circumstance where they would not sell me the item off of a display model. ms. rude manager, you could have been nicer.
b. really, corporate WOULDN'T want you to make a sale?
c. um, i wanted the cardigan. I BATTED MY EYELASHES AT YOU DUDE.
d. i was tempted to take it off the mannequin myself.
(and it was destiny because the mannequin size WAS MY SIZE)
e. CHEER UP, IT'S THE HOLIDAY SEASON, DUDE.
have to say, i have no interest in going back for the cardigan. or ever shopping at gap again. i'm super disappointed.

That's strange. I have never had an issue like that with GAP. They usually are so great. Hopefully it was just a bad experience.

I hate experiences like that. Dude.
I want a nice cardi so bad
That's awful! I hate it when sales people are super rude, I mean, it's their job to be nice!
That is such a bummer!
Sales associates sometimes can't think outside the box...
xoxox,

I don't think people realize how much bad customer service turns people off. I always stop shopping at stores where the sales associates are rude. :/
I hate it when sales associates are rude or not helpful at all.
I'm so sorry! I have found that for some reason, Gap associates are super reluctant to take something off the display, even if I know it will fit perfectly and definitely plan to buy it.

Awww you totally have to wear your little black blazer!! Bust it out and get to wearin! ha!
As for the GAP boo!! When did they start not selling off of their mannequins anyways?? That is SOOO strange!!!
Im sorry girl!

I hate rude people! Dealt with two myself today. Hello, we are the customers...you know, the ones that provide you with a paycheck. It's not like we are being rude to them, we just want to be treated like humans!
I'm so stunned they treated you that way. Wtf?! I would have been soooo pissed. I'm so sorry you had to put up with that crap. And they are clearly idiots because they didn't make a sale. They are not doing their jobs at all. Ugh.
Well, I don't blame you for not going back. They don't deserve your money. Is there another Gap you could go to? Hmm...
I hope this upcoming week treats you a lot nicer. You deserve it. xoxo
aww i hate this kind of experience if it happens to me as well. i wish shops would hire better sales assistants in the future! i totally understand when you say the cardigan was calling your name, happens to me a lot!
cheer up! ;)
wow, thats hectic! Sorry to hear about that and I agree you should not go back at all. xx
uuugh that sucks! =/
Talk about bad customer service stories, I had a very bad experience at record store where an employee accused me of stealing! I had the CD in my hand (a Madonna), but she assumed I don't know what she was thinking, maybe because I'm Spanish that I'm going to steal! I was sooo insulted and embarrassed. I wrote to their corporate headquarters and actually got a response. I never did shop there again, but I hope they changed their policies. I'm sure you'll find a better cardi elsewhere :)
That's really stupid. Why would they want to keep one on display when there were none left to buy? Doesn't make sense to me. I took a shirt off an Old Navy mannequin once without asking and bought it, and GAP and Old Navy are owned by the same peoples. I wonder if I violated their "code of conduct." Pfft.
It really makes me wonder how some people (e.g. that manager) get and keep their jobs. There's gotta be better people to employ. Especially since everyone and their brother is out of work.
that is RIDICULOUS. I have never heard of a store not bending over backwards- taking things of mannequins, etc- for a sale. and it's xmas!!! Rude!
terrible! I've been feeling really blah while working retail over the holidays, but I never let that show to customers; we try to be accomodating as possible-- changing a mannequin is nottttttt that big of a deal!
That is so rude! I've pulled stuff off mannequins tons of times and never encountered something like this. Isn't the number 1 rules of selling to actually sell something?? haha

That cardy is SO fabulous! Gap has a 40% off sale going on in its stores right now!
what?! soo weird, why won't they take it off the display? I've never had that happen to me before, usually they're more than happy to since the store needs to meet a quota every month so every sale is a sale to them.
Ugh I totally empathise, been in that situation myself! It's utterly ridic, you're offering them your purse, what is there to say no to?! jazzy ♥
That is soooo not fair! They should want to make a sale from you! I've never even encountered that. Fortunately I've always been able to take things off a mannequin if needed. Stupid Gap!
not even the eyelash-batting worked? scrooge. i'm sorry about missing out on the cardigan--it looks awesome. maybe gap will read this post and send you one for you and every member of your family, just to try to make amends? a girl can hope...

p.s. i'd love it if you stopped by my very wee fashion blog (just 2 weeks old), where i document my daily ensembles and the method (or not) behind them. i can only wear what's in my closet, and it has to be something different every day until the end of 2010. and, yes, it's as intense as it sounds. come on by! http://adayinlifetoo.blogspot.com
I use to work at Abercrombie and Fitch and we weren't allowed to sell anything to customers as well! It sucked and I totally thought the same thing as you. Like wouldn't you want to make that sale. Money is money. Booo.
