i've always loved target. but lately...this love has been really bad. like, the guy that you just cannot get enough of.
okay, now that i've totally made that awkward statement...i'll move on.
to me, i would rather shop at target and pay a bit of a higher price than shop at forever 21.
why?
1. typically better quality. i mean, some stuff from f21 is absolutely awesome but i just like target's stuff better in general.
2. if it's from f21, everyone in the area (plus their mothers) have it.
so i'd rather pay a bit more for a bit better quality and a little reduction of someone else wearing the same thing i am. i don't know about you, but when i was in high school if someone had the same shirt as me i would never ever wear the shirt again to school :( ... rational? no. but still, sad. ;P
and please note, i am NOT dissing f21. i do like that store, a lot. but not as much as tarjay.
here's how my love affair has been over the past month:
go to target, just make sure that i got everything i wanted from the anna sui collection (me = sucker for "limited edition")
track down ruched coat.
buy silk wrap dress.
buy chiffon swivel top.
decide that the puffy vest is sorta cute. buy that too.
cut myself off from target (heh.)
two days later, go back to target to just "look around"
and then i discovered some REALLY cute dresses from xhilaration! damn target and their amazing marketing strategies - REALLY. right by the effin front of the store.
these dresses are $19.99 each. i felt that the quality was good for the price, some even being AMAZING deals. i am so effin excited to wear them! even though they're tank dresses, they can easily be paired up with leggings and boyfriend blazers.
and let's face it. i've seen similiar dresses EVERYWHERE...and at nordstrom in the bp department, they average from $36-$76 bucks and are relatively the same quality. jcrew has the "colorblock" type of dresses for $198. idk about you, but i think i'd rather spend $120 and get 6 dresses. i'm not one to be cheap with dresses, but i could not possibly pass these babies up.
my advice? size up. it's juniors sizing. i usually wear a small in dresses, i took these in a medium. the shape is universally flattering. the skirts are not stretchy - they were either a bit stiff (not in a bad way, just structured) or had a slip. i say size up more for the bust area, honestly. and did i mention - they are REALLY slimming? ;)
here's what i found, along with reviews.
poplin tank dress

okay, this dress caught my eye as soon as i entered the store. unfortunately, the online image does not really provide how pretty the top pattern is. i included a close up view of the print. it looks much more expensive than it is. no slip on this one, but a structured skirt. see that gold circle? it's a removable brooch. there is an elastic band that acts as a belt and it's really stretchy. creates a really nice figure.

okay, you're probably like "what the eff is she on?" but this dress is SO pretty in person. target, please work on your marketing online. the online picture does this dress no justice. this is one of the dresses that has a slip made into the skirt. i nicknamed this the peacock dress. it looks SO SO SO much better in person, i cannot stress it enough. i wish i would have had this for the summer with the beautiful colors, but i think it will work in the winter with a blazer.

careful. this dress can be borderline costumey. i don't know how to describe it online, but you don't get the right size it just looks wrong. the small fit, but the slip underneath kept clinging to my leg. i sized up and went for a medium and that problem was eliminated. this would look stellar with leggings or tights.very pretty, intricate details.

another meh picture. i saw this on the rack and thought it was cute. when i got home, i ordered it online (i have problems, i know :P). i loved the shade of pink. compare it to the peacock dress for other aspects.
sleeveless knit/woven tank dress

aaand here we go again with another lackluster online picture. in person, the shades of grey match better - i think my picture that i took is a more accurate view. it looks really expensive and reminds me of
this rachel roy dress at macy's for some reason.

except the target dress is $19.99 and the above rachel roy dress is $129. take your pick. i'm excited to pair this with a black blazer.
and of course, my favorite one and the one that i feel was the best quality and best executed isn't online. SAD. if you can find this at your local target, i would definitely snatch it up. this baby is going places. you can DEFINITELY dress it up. i immediately thought "office christmas party!" ... also these pictures are especially for
gigi
not pictured online
only available in stores? don't know for sure. still $19.99
close-up detail, a little blurry but you can see the beautifully detailed top.
the top reminds like
the above dress from ann taylor ($240!!!!)
what i like best about these dresses? for $19.99, even if you get a few uses out of them you can be happy. also, these dresses ALL have elastic band waists...and you know what that means. if/when the tank top gets yucky looking or you get tired of it, either tuck in the tank top or snip snip it off ... and you've got yourself a new SKIRT. yeah, i know. i was impressed too.
WOULD YOU WEAR ANY OF THESE DRESSES? DO YOU LIKE WHAT TARGET HAS BEEN OFFERING RECENTLY?
