faux fix: military edition

i know that i'm not the only one who loves balmain. i also know that if i wanted to buy anything authentic balmain, i wouldn't be able to shop for a veeeerry long time.

personally, i love splurge items but not that big of a splurge (after all, i'm a pre-law student, not a lawyer... er or a celebrity lawyer for balmain's prices haha)

ARE YOU FEELING THE MILITARY STYLE FOR JACKETS?

christian siriano + me finally unite. well, sort of.

i am officially DONE with midterms, so i have a bit more free time now! yayyy :D

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

hard to admit that i'm too old to go trick or treating (lol) but i got myself something better than candy...SHOES.

i found out about the payless coupon for 50% off that oprah apparently was a part of and rushed to my local payless. i live within a ten mile radius of like a billion payless-es (is it paylesses? oof, you get the point) but i wasn't about to waste my time at each one because i really didn't have much time at all. i was looking to score some christian siriano, which was only at "select" stores.

and dude, what the eff is a "select" payless? i asked the manager at one of the stores where i could find the christian siriano collection and he called another store and found out that the paylesses that are in the malls near me are carrying the line...so off i went.

i have to say, i'm impressed. i'm a self proclaimed shoe whore but i haven't been to payless in a while. i've never really had a bad experience with payless to be honest. the craftsmanship of these shoes were pretty impressive for the prices (basically $15 a pair with the discount! insaaneeee.) i love the styles too.

here's what i bought....

micola zipper flat in gold
$29.99 without sale, found here

i wasn't sure about the zipper on these things, but i was in love with the color. i wear flats a lot and i know i'll wind up getting a lot of use out of these. gold flats are my absolute fav and i love the gold heel!

elisa strippy sandal
$29.99 without sale, found here

loving that it's sort of a gladiator look. also, look at that heel! it's like a triangle-ish thing. can you tell i'm so well versed in terminology here?

lisa large satchel
$34.99 without sale, found here (online it is $29.99 though...odd)

this bag is so cute in person! it's not as big as i thought it would be (especially since it's named the large satchel) but i love it. the inside lining is red. the outside is very buttery and soft.

brown flats
$29.99 without sale

these flats, which aren't listed online anymore. they were definitely a part of the original collection. it was the only pair of that style in the store so i guess i got lucky lol

i wanted to get these too, but the 6.5's that i got were like...literally the only 6.5's in the store. i saved like $63 and paid $64 with tax. NICE. i also snagged another christian handbag (not included in my $64 total) for my mom for christmas.

i'm sort of kicking myself for not buying these or these but i really don't need more shoes, especially boots (GOD THAT SENTENCE WAS HARD TO WRITE/ADMIT)

so, my lovely bloggy readers & friends...

DID YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE 50% OFF COUPON? WHAT DID YOU GET?

upcoming posts: a faux fix look with the highkoo boots and ten random things that i was tagged in by the lovely sparkling pink gorilla like a week ago (i need to get on that!)

jolt denim leggings - a pleasant surprise.

let me first start off by saying that i did not intend for this to be the topic for today, but i received my order from nordstrom in the mail and i am in absolute love.

leggings. until recently, i've HATED them. i finally found the perfect pair of black leggings and i have been more open minded towards incorporating them into my outfits.

enter denim leggings. i honestly never thought i would EVER IN MY LIFE buy denim leggings. but i saw a pair of jolt leggings (which winona of daddy likey calls "jeggings" haha :p) .. and i fell for them. i ordered them but figured that they would look rediculously awful.

to my surprise...they didn't. they look effing awesome.

jolt 'pick me up' stetch denim leggings
found here

they look like ACTUAL jeans and they feel more like stretch/sweat pants. like, you can actually sit down comfortably with them. they have a fake "fly" but there's only a button, no zipper. i also have been blessed with a generously sized rear (thank you ms. kardashian for making these a bit more in style :P) and they look ten kinds of awesome. they highlight the areas that i want highlighted and don't focus on the areas that i want to disguise. oh, and they don't pinch areas that do not need to be pinched.

also, another thing that i promised myself was that i would NEVER wear leggings without a long top to cover my tushy. with these, i really wouldn't worry. they look so much like actual denim that you don't really need to cover your tush. it's all personal preference i guess, but i'm very comfortable with them.

all in all, I LOVE THESE THINGS. i immediately ordered another pair and also in the grey wash. i can't testify for other denim leggings, but these..damn, i love em.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT DENIM LEGGINGS?

faux fix: the rachel.

to me, "the rachel" used to solely refer to jennifer aniston's hair that was (and still is) really popular.

now though, i'd say that rachel zoe is definitely bringing new meaning to "the rachel" ... i have to admit, i didn't watch her show when it first started. i actually only saw an episode of it like two months ago and i kicked myself for missing out on it until then. i love her style (who doesn't?) and even wound up ordering a cross necklace like taylor has.

here's a faux fix of one of her signature items.

rachel zoe faux fur vest
found here, introductory sale price for $79.80

faux-fur rachel vest
(what an inspired name, fred flare :P)
found here, for $60

American Eagle Furry Vest
found here, for $49.50

honestly, this isn't really my style so i probably wouldn't buy it but i think i'm feeling the american eagle one.

falling in love with fall

a marshmallow treat from starbucks, rocking my darker nail polish

i have been embracing fall this year. i have been loving iced pumpkin spice lattes, ben and jerry's pumpkin cheesecake ice cream and cheesecake factory's pumpkin cheesecake. (hm, see a pattern?) this is the first year i've even tried pumpkin, because i hate pumpkin pie. i know, i'm a walking contradiction :p

i'm still not the biggest fan of colder weather, but the advantages of fall outweigh them. think... boots, cardigans, pumpkin flavored everything, tights and leggings, warm cozy sweaters

i'm also LOVING fall colors.. which is why i took advantage of my mother's discount and bought three new nail polishes. i usually opt for corals and pinks so it felt weird to rock these colors. it felt so awesome - literally, it changed my entire mindset. i'm loving these darker, different colors and i'm currently on the search for a few more.

loving these colors!

WHAT ARE YOU LOVING ABOUT THIS FALL?

oh and a boot update.. i sent back the DVs... the steve maddens looked so much better!

birthday boots

my birthday is coming up (exactly a month from now, actually) ... which means that it is gift time bahaha *insert evil, but fashionably evil laugh*

i wind up ordering close to half of my own gifts. it's easier for my parents because they know i'll get exactly what i want and exactly what size i prefer.

so, i've been craaaaving the perfect leather boots. i ordered three pairs but i probably won't keep them all. i'm going to keep the pair that i like best and they're going to wrap it for my birthday...and then, i'll act suprised ;)

HAPPY FRIDAY!

love in the form of handbags.

anyone that has read my blog can probably vouch for the fact that i love nordstrom rack. like...effing love it. i've rambled on and on about it maaaany times and have praised it.

well, i had $40 worth of nordstrom notes, which are basically like rewards points from my nordstrom visa. i usually wind up wasting them at the regular nordstrom. this time, i went to the rack. sure, i wound up laying out much more money [heh. heh. heh.] but i am beyond satisfied with my purchases.

i bought two pairs of leggings with the zippers on the ankles. no need to include pics of those and bore everyone :P ... one was like a sweat pants type of material and the other was spandex. i've only recently began to like leggings (i still cringe when i think about how i wore them once in high school with a denim mini). i still haven't tried the whole long shirt/tunic, sans pants thing yet but i'm so exicted now with these babies!

i also found these two cardigans by harajuku lovers by gwen stefani for $24.99. retail was $84-$96 i believe.

[they look cuter in person]

and then, i found it.
[if it was a person, i'd be legitimately in love]

guess by marciano meredith bag
retail $298, nordstrom rack $146.99 [BOO-YAH]
[that's the best picture online i could find of it. mine is actually a bit different. i'll have to take a picture of it myself]

with STUDS. yeah, studs.

i looked at it. held it. walked around like i normally do with my purses. hestitantly put it down. tried on some stuff. came back. put it down. went on line. ran back to the purse as my mother held my spot on line.

i couldn't leave the store without this baby. it is SO beautiful in person, an amazing shade of grey and the leather is soft and buttery. did i mention it has studs? yeah, it's perfect.

and i may have had a fashion orgasm at the register, cuz i'm preeeeeeetty sure the people behind me (go figure, a long line of businessmen, women etc) looked at me like i was crazy. and i may have even squealed.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO NORDSTROM RACK? WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE DISCOUNTED PURCHASES?

ps everyone...up next, i'm going to try to schedule posts, include some pictures of my outfits and at least show you pictures of stuff i own and my closet, rave about starbucks via, my birthday/christmas wish list and much more. thanks for all of your input on what you would like to see on this blog, and if you have more don't hestitate to comment on it!

faux fix, snakeskin edition.

when i was browsing the rachel zoe line, my mind went IMMEDIATELY to the hollywood intuition line at target.

i'm not sure about you, but i don't think i'd wear this type of bag every day. i'm actually not a fan of this type of print, but if i was to buy it i would go with the target one and save $100 for a bag that i'd use daily.

enjoy!

WOULD YOU ROCK EITHER OF THESE BAGS?

Monday, October 5, 2009

oh, tarjay.

**i actually redid this post and gave into taking pictures of everything that i bought except for the one that i bought online. target's online pictures do NOTHING for these dresses**

i've always loved target. but lately...this love has been really bad. like, the guy that you just cannot get enough of.

okay, now that i've totally made that awkward statement...i'll move on.

to me, i would rather shop at target and pay a bit of a higher price than shop at forever 21.

why?
1. typically better quality. i mean, some stuff from f21 is absolutely awesome but i just like target's stuff better in general.

2. if it's from f21, everyone in the area (plus their mothers) have it.

so i'd rather pay a bit more for a bit better quality and a little reduction of someone else wearing the same thing i am. i don't know about you, but when i was in high school if someone had the same shirt as me i would never ever wear the shirt again to school :( ... rational? no. but still, sad. ;P

and please note, i am NOT dissing f21. i do like that store, a lot. but not as much as tarjay.

here's how my love affair has been over the past month:

go to target, just make sure that i got everything i wanted from the anna sui collection (me = sucker for "limited edition")

track down ruched coat.

buy silk wrap dress.

buy chiffon swivel top.

decide that the puffy vest is sorta cute. buy that too.

cut myself off from target (heh.)

two days later, go back to target to just "look around"

and then i discovered some REALLY cute dresses from xhilaration! damn target and their amazing marketing strategies - REALLY. right by the effin front of the store.

these dresses are $19.99 each. i felt that the quality was good for the price, some even being AMAZING deals. i am so effin excited to wear them! even though they're tank dresses, they can easily be paired up with leggings and boyfriend blazers.

and let's face it. i've seen similiar dresses EVERYWHERE...and at nordstrom in the bp department, they average from $36-$76 bucks and are relatively the same quality. jcrew has the "colorblock" type of dresses for $198. idk about you, but i think i'd rather spend $120 and get 6 dresses. i'm not one to be cheap with dresses, but i could not possibly pass these babies up.

my advice? size up. it's juniors sizing. i usually wear a small in dresses, i took these in a medium. the shape is universally flattering. the skirts are not stretchy - they were either a bit stiff (not in a bad way, just structured) or had a slip. i say size up more for the bust area, honestly. and did i mention - they are REALLY slimming? ;)

here's what i found, along with reviews.

poplin tank dress
found here

okay, this dress caught my eye as soon as i entered the store. unfortunately, the online image does not really provide how pretty the top pattern is. i included a close up view of the print. it looks much more expensive than it is. no slip on this one, but a structured skirt. see that gold circle? it's a removable brooch. there is an elastic band that acts as a belt and it's really stretchy. creates a really nice figure.

chiffon tank dress
found here

okay, you're probably like "what the eff is she on?" but this dress is SO pretty in person. target, please work on your marketing online. the online picture does this dress no justice. this is one of the dresses that has a slip made into the skirt. i nicknamed this the peacock dress. it looks SO SO SO much better in person, i cannot stress it enough. i wish i would have had this for the summer with the beautiful colors, but i think it will work in the winter with a blazer.

lace tank dress
found here

careful. this dress can be borderline costumey. i don't know how to describe it online, but you don't get the right size it just looks wrong. the small fit, but the slip underneath kept clinging to my leg. i sized up and went for a medium and that problem was eliminated. this would look stellar with leggings or tights.very pretty, intricate details.

chiffon tank dress
found here

another meh picture. i saw this on the rack and thought it was cute. when i got home, i ordered it online (i have problems, i know :P). i loved the shade of pink. compare it to the peacock dress for other aspects.

sleeveless knit/woven tank dress
found here

aaand here we go again with another lackluster online picture. in person, the shades of grey match better - i think my picture that i took is a more accurate view. it looks really expensive and reminds me of this rachel roy dress at macy's for some reason.

except the target dress is $19.99 and the above rachel roy dress is $129. take your pick. i'm excited to pair this with a black blazer.

and of course, my favorite one and the one that i feel was the best quality and best executed isn't online. SAD. if you can find this at your local target, i would definitely snatch it up. this baby is going places. you can DEFINITELY dress it up. i immediately thought "office christmas party!" ... also these pictures are especially for gigi

not pictured online
only available in stores? don't know for sure. still $19.99

close-up detail, a little blurry but you can see the beautifully detailed top.

the top reminds like the above dress from ann taylor ($240!!!!)

what i like best about these dresses? for $19.99, even if you get a few uses out of them you can be happy. also, these dresses ALL have elastic band waists...and you know what that means. if/when the tank top gets yucky looking or you get tired of it, either tuck in the tank top or snip snip it off ... and you've got yourself a new SKIRT. yeah, i know. i was impressed too.

WOULD YOU WEAR ANY OF THESE DRESSES? DO YOU LIKE WHAT TARGET HAS BEEN OFFERING RECENTLY?
