a little q&a session

first of all, let me just stay i have to stay away from target. some of their new stuff is absolutely amazing. i wound up buying a few dresses from xhilaration tonight, which i DEFINITELY will post a review about as my next post. tarjay, i love thee.

answer time!

The Queen of Clearance:

what store do you hate? the look of it just drives you insane?

hmmm... this is REALLY a tough question. i usually can find ANYTHING to buy at ANY given store. like...even gas stations in the middle of nowhere. i know, i'm really bad. hm... i guess i don't like the appearance of "teen" stores, because i was a mall rat and spent waaay too much time in them. i mean stores like aero, a&f and hollister. also, bebe hits a particular nerve. i don't know why. i even like some of the clothes! i also used to hate jcpenney, but i grew to like it.

Sparkling Pink Gorilla:

when you look back at the things you've wore in the past- what stands out as the biggest OMG what was I thinking item?

(it really looked something like that, sans belt)

heh heh heh. i've had my share of embarrassing outfits. like, maybe all three years of middle school. and when i was growing out my bangs. i'd have to say some things that made me say WTF WAS I THINKING... a really ugly camo skirt, half of the screened tees with "quirky" sayings, and um... yeah. big middle school flashback.

also, i wore similiar outfits every other monday during one year of high school (cuz i had free periods and i liked someone in that lunch haha ;p). it consisted of a long sleeved shirt, denim mini and cowboy boots. yeah, even in the winter. i know, i was a naive little child. haha.

Rai:

What's the most you spent at one time?

the first time i found the nordstrom rack i spent four digits (not counting the cents, of course). painful, but the value of my clothes was a little over double. i usually go to nordstrom rack twice a year and spend a nice chunk of change. it sounds insano, but i basically stay away from designer things during the rest of the year with a few exceptions.

What's your favorite items for fall this year?

tights and boots, by far! i'm so excited to "winterize" some dresses. i'm also loving the anna sui collection, especially the jackets. i can't wait to rock them!

Rai & Yiqin:

What's your favorite food?

(i get hungry just looking at that!)

another tough one! i like italian food (of course ;p) and japanese food the best.

Erika:

what trends do you loathe and why?

i used to HATE leggings. all forms. but i realized that leggings, especially those that go up to your ankle, can really make an outfit look great. plus, it's great for those tops/dresses that are really short. i'm starting to jump on the legging bandwagon, but i still cringe when i think about wearing short leggings with a denim mini. i think they remind me of biker shorts, which i wore in my childhood...errrk.

what is your favorite book?

can i give three? the giver, the five people you meet in heaven and the lovely bones. just classics for me.

the giver i read in 8th grade and loooooved it. i highly recommend it. i read the lovely bones when i was much younger too and i can't wait for the movie to come out.

and the five people you meet in heaven. omg. it is a MUST read. i read it this past year for an english project. i read it within two hours while waiting in the train station in dc and on the train home from dc.

i cried. on the train. next to a stranger. haha it is THAT good.

Erika & Imogen:

why do you blog?

hm. well, i regularly checked a few blogs and really enjoyed reading them. i think that's what really hooked me in, because i have TRIED SO MANY TIMES TO KEEP UP WITH AN EFFIN BLOG...but with no other people to communicate with haha. i really enjoy blogging, i wish i had more time to put more effort into it.

Couture Carrie:

How do you like law school and what do you want to do with your degree?

(eeek, one of my favorite places is dc!)

i had the opportunity to attend a nontraditional high school and actually "major" in law. i loved it. honestly, i could not even imagine how i would have enjoyed regular high school haha. i'm currently working on my bachelor's degree in criminal justice. i'll be applying to law school preeeetty soon, which scares me lolol

i'm not exactly sure of what i want to do once i get my law degree. i know that i want to be an attorney, but i'm not sure what type. i used to want to be a criminal defense attorney, but i'm not so sure. maybe international or civil law. still not sure ;P

Monica:

If you could relate your personal style to an animal, what would it be?

hmm. lol i really like this question! i love leopard print...so maybe?

i'd say i'm something crazy ;P

What is your favorite store?

nordstrom and ross. i know, complete opposites. i LOVE nordstrom rack even more than nordstrom.

The Maddy Chronicles:

What has been your biggest splurge?

(they are so gorgeous in person!)

most of my splurge worthy items have been gifts... my grandma usually gifts me a designer bag every christmas and my parents spoil me a bit :P i'm a tad more conservative with my own money...

but.

i have had a little wish list since i was in middle school of what splurges i would treat myself to at each big educational accomplishment. i forget what i got myself for graduating middle school, but my gift to myself for graduating high school was supposed to be a pair of jimmy choos. i bought the hunter/jimmy choo collab boots for that. when i graduate college, i plan to buy louboutins and when i graduate law school, i plan to buy a designer suit. i really hope that i'll be able to stick to these little goals.

Who's your celebrity style inspiration?

(i would totally wear that outfit.)

REESE. i love her.

(it was hard only posting ONE picture of her, love her style!)

and leighton meester recently.

(ihatetoadmitthisbutlaurenconradtoo)

What is your most favorite guilty pleasure?

ice cream

(i love mr. swisher, especially loved his mohawk! i think he's growing it out though)

watching yankee games (gotta support my boys!)

google and wikipedia. because without them, i would be effed.

(how cute is cereal spiller!?)

and dexter. i'm mildy obsessed. i made blood spatter cupcakes for the premiere last week.

The Maddy Chronicles & Imogen:

What's your favorite movie of ALL time?

i LOVE movies. eeeeeeek. haha. i cannot possibly list one. some of my favorites include: legally blonde, the godfather (1,2, and maybe even 3), goodfellas, sweet home alabama, confessions of a shopaholic, miss congeniality, matilda (i'm a child of the 90s), harriet the spy (see the previous statement), romy & michele's high school reunion, mickey blue eyes, a bronx tale (can you believe i've only seen this RECENTLY?!) and um elf.

i'm kind of obsessed with elf. like, one day it was playing the entire day on tv and i watched it multiple times. and laughed every single time. i LOVE that movie.

Droll Girl:

lmao, i will pass on this one ;P

Giz89:
[hm, for some reason it won't let me view your link to link back to you :(]

what is your absolute most embarrassing just kill me now moment??

hm, once again...middle school. basically those three entire years haha. but hm, one time stands out in particular. i worked up the courage to ask this upperclassman to sign my yearbook. before that - we NEVER talked. at all. i look back and cringe.

more recently though. i wore a ruffled dress to work. my 50+ coworker wore a ruffled top, similiar and in the same color. i almost died. especially when she was like "oh, we're both wearing ruffles!"

i covered tried to cover it with my hair the entire day. oh and needless to say, i never wore that dress to work....ever...again.

Kristin:

If you had to choose one perfect accessory what would it be?

i'm a huge purse girl, so i find it hard to say anything BUT a purse...but really, i think i'd have to go with a great belt. it can really make an outfit.

Nubia:

What is the one item you cant live without?

clothing-wise, a little black dress. my favorite? one that i found two years ago at target. in the kids department. seriously.

(i went without this for a week and went crazy.)

beauty-wise, i could never live without witch hazel. i SWEAR by it.

What do you think is the worst trend out right now?

hm. good question. i remember someone famous once said that they like to dress simple and classic, because when they look back at photos they don't want to say that they looked trendy or know what year it was (if that makes any sense, i'm totally butchering the quote). i think it was gwyneth paltrow. i don't like things that are overly trendy, anything that will DEFINITELY fade after one season or anything really rediculous. i guess it's a vague answer, but it's true! :P

E of Distric of Chic:

Favorite artist?

hm, artist as in music or art? i would usually gravitate towards music, but i took an art class last year so i was like hmmm haha.

i'll answer music because i'm blanking out on names of artists that i liked from class. i LOVE basically everything. i love taylor swift. kanye too. akon. fabolous. britney spears. lady gaga. the black eyed peas. three days grace. a lot of different genres. i generally like happy music haha ;p

Imogen:
What is your favourite item of clothing that you own?

i would have to say this one black dress that i have. it is SO versatile! i really love all of my dresses though. i could live in them. i also love my jeans lol ... to me, jeans are like sweats. i feel they're more comfy. i know, i'm weird ;P

SM:

What is your foremost favorite shoe brand???

PLV (pour la victoire) has been my favorite for a while now. i ADORE ADORE ADORE their shoes! i'm also a huge sucker for uggs. i love shoes and i have a lot of favorite brands.

that was fun! haha. i love seeing reader input, so now its my turn to ask a question...

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ON THIS BLOG?

it can be a particular type of posts (like more faux fix or wish list posts) or just a general suggestion. i would love to have a type of giveaway soon, but right now i don't really have the means/time to organize one haha. all comments/suggestions/criticisms are welcome - even the negatives.

ps: sorry for the really late update on this. i've had a super busy week...but i really miss keeping up with my blog. i might have to schedule posts for a while until everything calms down a bit. i just hate putting up posts and not even visiting other blogs and commenting :( i like to be interactive! haha
answers to our little q&a session will be up by tomorrow.

college has been consuming my life. and laziness. or just laziness.

so, if you still have any questions - ask now, cuz i'm answering soon!

guess who found it....

ruched nylon jacket
found... well, hardly anywhere. no longer available online and no longer available at practically any target store (especially in medium -_-)

aaand i found it in a size medium
(aka, no compromise...boooooya. sorry, i'm high off fashion destiny ;D)

i'm still leaving the questions section open until this weekend. so if you have anything else to ask, ASK AWAY!

Sunday, September 20, 2009

all about me.

well, i was going to write a blog about random things about myself.

...but what's the fun in that?

so, instead i decided that i'm leaving this up for a few days...

ASK ME ANYTHING.

anything, really. it can be random (i LOVE random)... it can be something you may think is stupid...it can be average... it can be ANYTHING. and i'll answer every single question, promise. i don't care if this is your first time reading or your fifth.

like..

have you met anyone famous?
oh, i have. interesting people.

have you ever been on tv?
yes, i was on stage at regis and kelly. ohhh what i went through for that.

do you like the color pink?
uh..duh.

do you like sports?
i'm incapable of being athletic. but i like watching my yankees.

what color nail polish are you wearing!?
pink!!!!

the possibilities are really endless.

ANYTHING.

don't be afraid. (just. effin. ask.)

if you want to keep it anonymous, go ahead. whatevs floats your boat.

(now watch...i'll get two questions :P)

so...

ASK ME ANYTHING!

ps: i have been trying to track down the anna sui ruched jacket in medium the entire weekend to no avail. so sad. it's even off the effin target website. damn you target. i love you, but sometimes...okay, i still love you.

review of anna sui for target

i have been sick for the past week, which explains for my lack of updates :( don't you hate it when your doctor tells you that you WON'T have a reaction to something and you do? yeah, fun stuff.

but on a muuuuch better topic ;) ... let's talk anna sui for target.

now, i'm not much of a gossip girl fan. i tried watching it but it never fit into my schedule. i even bought an episode of it on itunes so i could watch it when i had gym at school (oh, junior year haha). but it just never was something i really "got" into. i must admit, i have always admired their clothing on the show and even in real life. seriously, how gorgeous are blake lively and leighton meester? (if i had a girl crush, leighton would be it :P)

i'm warning you..my review is a bit long and comprehensive. i'm giving my HONEST opinions about the items that i bought, tried on and saw at my local targets. i will most likely also post these reviews on the target website.

if you're queasy at the thought of spending $50 for a piece of clothing at target, read at your own risk. the prices are a bit frustrating. i really don't ever like the collaberations at target (except for hollywood intuition). in fact, the last time i even bothered to look at a collection was the paul & joe collection... think about how long ago that was. so i cannot really compare this collection to any other collab or compare prices. while the prices are a bit inflated for target, i feel that the quality was pretty good. and after all, it's not forever 21. it's still target we're talking about and they're trying to market their "designer" collection...whether i (or we ;P) agree with the prices or not. i have a feeling that this is one collection that will NOT wind up going on sale.

all in all, i loved some of the pieces in the collection. some were a TOTAL hit. others were a TOTAL miss. but the hits really outweighed the misses for me. i made about three trips to target over the past two days and even ordered a piece online. (hey..its for research...right? :P)

**i noticed that the pictures online did the pieces NO justice. some pieces looked 10x better while others looked 10x worse. if you have a target close by, try it on in person instead**

what i bought

leather long sleeve jacket
found here

this is the most expensive piece in the collection. i have to say, i went in target with little expectations. i wanted to try this jacket on for pure research (seriously).. and fell in love with it. i almost didn't bother to try it on, figuring that i would NEVER spend $150 for something at target. but it is SO BEAUTIFUL. this is like the best piece in the collection. best part? it has a 100% leather shell, so the $150 price tag isn't as painful. it has velour like piping in some places. it looks very expensive as well. i know that i will get a lot of use out of this, and i probably would have paid $150 or more for a leather jacket this season anyway.

gray bib tee shirt with black lace fringe
found here

this tee caught my eye. the black lace fringe looks very expensive in my opinion. plus, its an easy way to mimic a statement necklace. the drawback to this shirt is that it is pretty sheer.

purple necklace tee shirt
found here

i liked this tee for myself, but it was more of my mom's style. i surprised her with this tee (its coming in the mail) after she tried it on in the store. it isn't sheer like the other tee and the beads really add a nice accent. it fits a bit tighter than the gray tee, so i'd recommend sizing up. my mom is usually a small but she fit in the medium.

geo floral stripe empire dress
found here

gee anna, inspired by yourself much?

that was one of her dresses last year that were featured on gossip girl. i have to say, i think i prefer the target one. i saw this during my first trip, but feared the sleeves. i went back the following day because i HAAAAD to try it on. after all, it has such pretty fall colors. i can't wait to pair this up with boots. i was very happy with the fit and the sleeves look all kinds of awesome ;)

metallic jacquard dress
found here

omg. honestly...i feared this piece. after seeing it for the past months in the advertisements, i thought it looked plastic-y (am i the only one?). i was pleasantly surprised when i saw this dress in person. the picture online (and the ads) does it NO justice. such a pretty dress when you put it on. i loved it - i think if you have the right look, you could dress it up to go to a nice party as well. i was happily surprised with this piece.

floral metallic jacquard dress
found here

this was the item that i was WAITING for. since i saw the ads, i just could not wait until i got my hands on this piece. i didn't have high expectations. usually when you wait looooong for something, it never turns out to be how you expected it. thankfully, it proved me wrong. i love this dress. i'm a hairline under 5'2 so it fits me as a dress fine. i think some taller people may have a slight problem. i plan to wear it with black tights and the steve madden marrvel boots that i got at nordstrom for my birthday outing.

silk romper
found here

the price is ridic. that is the main thing that turned me off about this piece. however, it should be noted that it is 100% silk. i tried this on in a medium at the store, but it was waaay too big. i put it down and didn't bother to try on a smaller size (much due to the price). i broke down and ordered it online in a small. i'll have to give an update about this. i really do like the concept of the piece though.

pleated tulle dress
found here

i really don't need another black dress. like...seriously, i don't. this caught my eye during my second trip (the first time i saw it, come to think of it). the tulle reminds me of a ballerina...but the dress itself is SO SO SO gorgeous. it looks much more expensive than $45. i know that i will get a ton of use out of this dress - i think this could probably be worn to a formal event. i couldn't stop smiling when i had it on. i loved it. the only gripe i have is the skinny, poorly executed stringy belt. i will probably pair it up with my own. i had to go up a size because of my boobage (the buttons didn't look right on my normal size). the picture on the website does it NO justice.

what i tried on / saw on the rack

ruched nylon jacket
found here

uggggh. this almost was in the category of what i bought. i thought the ruched aspect made the jacket so pretty. also, i liked that it was full length with a detachable hood. the problem was that one target had a small (it fit, but the bust was a little tight and i'm not sure if that would be a problem with bulkier clothing) and the other target had a large was waaay too big in the sleeves. i was going to order it online, but it seems to be out of stock. if i find a medium, i plan to buy this item.

sheer dot jacquard dress
found here

i did not try this on, but i think it should be noted that this is COMPLETELY sheer.

burnout spiral floral stappy dress
found here

i didn't try this on because it is really not my style. i didn't really care for the material.

geo floral silk wrap dress
found here

the only reason why i didn't try this on is because i'm not really a fan of wrap dresses. it is really pretty though.

silk patterned dress
found here

i just couldn't imagine the neckline working for me. not my favorite in the collection.

seersucker dress with lace
found here

i had this in my hand, then put it down. the oddly placed belt thing turned me off.

houndstooth jacquard dress
found here

this dress is VERY dressy and looks high end. i saw it on a really skinny teenage girl and it looked gorgeous. i didn't really like it on myself, but it is still a great piece.

lace halter dress
found here

honestly? the bow reminds me of a playboy bunny. i just can't get past that, haha.

metallic grey feather dress
found here

ughhh. i wanted to love this. i even tried it on at the store, put it down, then ordered it online later that day. i hated the silver confetti like pieces, even though it looked really pretty from far away. it was very itchy. the tweed-like dress was of good quality. it would have been great for the colder months too...but the deep v neck was just too much for me. it might look okay if you layered with something, but i just couldn't pull it off. a total disappointment.

grey and white wide striped cardigan
found here

too itchy. haha. i took it off after i had one arm in it.

text tee shirt with lace trim
found here

i have a text for anna ... WTF?

chiffon swivel print top
found here

really pretty. this may have been sheer, i can't remember. i didn't wind up buying it though. this is another item that i would probably go back for (but if my credit card could talk, it would ban me from ever setting foot in a target store again)

ottoman sleeveless vest
found here

i wanted to try this on...but i used to wear vests like that when i was in the third grade and couldn't bring myself to try it on.

table cloth dress
found here

i have a story about this one. i saw it originally and said "wow, that is UGLY." but i kept thinking about it even after i left the store. sometimes, you see something really ugly and then you try it on and you're pleasantly surprised. i went to a different target and they were sold out. so i figured, maybe it is really nice on. i went back to the original target and was soooooo happy to find my size. then i tried it on. uh. this is by far the worst piece in the collection. the neck choked me. like, literally. and it looks like a potato sack, yet still managed to swish my boobs. i can't imagine this looking good on anyone. i feel bad to even link to this on the target website - i cannot believe it is sold out.

**i'm a dress girl, so i really didn't try on the tops. like i said before, there were a LOT of misses in this collection. but i genuinely feel that the hits overshine them**

WHAT'S YOUR VERDICT ON THE ANNA SUI COLLECTION AT TARGET?

Sunday, September 13, 2009

xoxo, fashion court

i'm still heeeeee!

i have been so busy since college started. and when i have free time, i just want to do NOTHING haha.

i just ordered this on etsy. it is my first etsy experience so i'm hoping it is a good one. i've known about etsy, but just haven't been compelled to ever buy anything honestly...even though there is some AMAZING stuff on there!i LOVE how unique this necklace looks, i'm hoping that i love it in person too!

WHAT'S YOUR VERDICT ON ETSY? DO YOU LIKE THE NECKLACE?

another faux fix...

okay, i saw the fred flare version on ms. kristin's blog and my mind immeeeeeediately went to the t&co necklaces.

tiffany&co key necklaces
(prices vary)

beautiful necklaces. can you really say anything wrong about tiffany&co anyway?

antique skeleton key necklace
found here

also a beautiful necklace, at a beautiful price. thank you fred flare.

WHAT'S THE VERDICT ABOUT THIS FAUX FIX?

faux fix

let my tweets explain the monday that i had

"ive been up for less than two hours and im already having a really bad day. ugh."

"dont you hate when technology fails you? my laptop and comp acting wacky, plus my ipod... damn."

"dont tell me my phone now too -_- ... eff technology i want to go live in the forest."

"nvm there are no malls in the forest."

"oh today just sucks. should have just slept the whole day."

"new 32gb ipod touch. i am one happy girl, reunited with my music once again."

but like the last one says, i am a happy girl once again.

here is today's faux fix. i know they're not exact, but considering all factors it is definitely a sweet substitute.

chloe 'sally' flap bag
found here

it can be yours for about $2,000. really, what can i say about a chloe bag? we know designer bags are pretty awesome.

top shop 2 tone box chain grab bag
found here

(damn resizing, whatevs. you get the point.)

this bag is $55. need i really say more?

but really, like i said, a much different look but a similar feel. i think what sticks out for me is the similiar type of flap. i know that most of us don't want to spend $2000 on a purse. i know that i could probably get an entire new wardrobe with $2000 at nordstrom rack or ross with that amount of money. the two tone color of this bag adds a cute effect too. and you save ... like a lot. i'd tell you exactly how much but i hate math. and with all that money you saved, you can treat yourself to something else ;D .. it'll be our little secret.

plus, being that it's from top shop probably no one else you know will have it. which is always a plus for me.

well, i start COLLEGE tommorrow! i believe i will be able to update - i lucked out with class only one day this week and then i'm off until next tuesday.

WHAT'S YOUR VERDICT - WOULD YOU BUY THE TOPSHOP BAG?

UPDATE: the steve madden marrvel booties that i drooled over HERE are on sale at nordstrom (40% off to be exact, plus an additional $20 off for me since i had a nordstrom note, these shoes were a sweet deal - talk about fashion destiny [yes i started using this phrase after making fun of the "cheetah destiny" thing for the cheetah girls, deal.]) coupled with a nordstrom note that i had). i ordered my pair today in the store, they don't seem to be available online.
